My knitting needles

310520071053

Here are my bamboo knitting needles. The one in brown is a knitting needle set which i bought when i first embarked on this new hobby. Doesnt cost much 18 years back. Cant remember how much i paid for it. Maybe around Rm300 or so?? But now, i think a set like this will cost around Rm600. Mine is Tulip brand. But the ones being sold now is Clover from Japan.

The red colored one holds all the loose pairs i bought as i progressed over the years. I prefer bamboo knitting needles as they are lighter and very smooth. Holds my knitting very well. Some knitters use metal knitting needles. My sis gave me two pairs. They’re heavy, makes an irritating clik-clik-clik noise as i knit and also slippery. And my stitches will slide off it easily. These will be my museum pieces, lol.

Here are the contents of my bamboo knitting needles set. The contents varies from time to time as they do “disappear”. I just replace whatever i lost/broke. The flap on the right holds all those smaller tools and other knick-knacks like stitch holders and stitch markers. I’ll elaborate on those on a different post.

When you are first starting to knit, it’s better to buy a pair or two first. Once you get the hang of knitting, and feel that you are ready to move on to bigger projects, invest in good knitting needles sets like this. It’s an investment and worth every dollar, believe me. Buy once, use forever; unless you lose them, lol.

Here’s what’s inside the red-colored knitting needle bag. I may work on 3 to 4 projects at a time. So, even two pairs of needles of the same size are never be enough. Sometimes, i may borrow them from the shop. But then, it’s best to buy if you’re an avid knitter. I havent really counted how many pairs i have. I guess i’ll just keep on buying from time to time :)

Orange Blouse in Katia Perla - Progress 5

290520071022

One more row and i’ll be starting on the armholes and collar, YAY!!! I didnt get to knit for the whole of Sunday, Monday nor today. Not that i get the chance to with two sick kids. Moreover, i’ve been out all day long for two consecutive days. I’m tired. I’m half sick myself. I only got to knit in the car or when i’m relaxing with a drink.

On another note, the Greentea blend at Coffee Bean tastes really good. Gotta remember to bring along my Coffee Bean Card the next time. I get RM2 off with it. Oh, whatthe heck. I’ll put it into my bag now. Seems like many are not used to seeing me knit in public, lol. Why? Think knitting is done only at home issit???? Get real.

Orange Blouse in Katia Perla - Oops!!

It’s not the first time i made this mistake. The holes in the patterned rows are supposed to alternate left-right-left-right. I have one hole on top of another on the patterned row i just finished. Aaarrrggghhhh…. You can compare that to the one on the right which i’ve just corrected on-site with the crochet needle. Thank god i know how to correct this. If not i’ll have to undo two rows of about 170 stitches each. That’s gonna take ages. Knitting is fast. Undoing is a very time consuming affair.

Orange Blouse in Katia Perla - Progress 4

25052007977

Didnt get to knit much for the whole of yesterday. I only managed about 8 rows in all from where i stopped. Another 16 rows to go and then, it’ll soon be finished. Oh well, every knitter needs a break, right. So, here comes my lemon cheesecake.

Orange Blouse in Katia Perla - Progress 3

Made another 1.75″ progress. That’s only about 18 rows. Only need another 24 rows before i start working the armholes and collar. It’s gonna be a breeze from there. I’m going to knit a V-neck for this blouse. Winnie has gone to school with my kid. So, say hi to Mickey :)

Orange Blouse in Katia Perla - Progress 2

22052007913

I made progress at last. After so long, lol. I ‘ve forgotten how long it took to do a row in 3mm for this. It’s more than 170 stitches for the patterned section and 11 stitches less for the non-patterned section. Each section has 22 rows. It takes 9 row to make one inch progress, lol. Yeah, that long; that much knitting. I hope i can finish this by the following weekend and have them joined together and modelled. Now, who wants to be my model???

Filatura Di Crosa - Brilla

DSC01605

Filatura Di Crosa yarns are wonderful to work with. This is the last ball of Brilla in 395 that i have left. Made a blouse for my best friend sometime back. I’ll most likely exchange this on my next trip to the yarn shop. This yarn has a beautiful satin-like sheen. I will definitely knit another blouse for myself in this if the shop still has stock in other colors. Comes in 50g balls of 110m/120yds with a gauge of 28 x 34 for 10cm x 10cm worked in 3mm needles.

Orange Blouse in Katia Perla - Progress 1

Before i start work on new projects, i’m reviving two existing ones which was left languishing in their bags since last year. And this is one of them. At 75% completion. It’s a sleeveless blouse in 3mm. I hope this wont take long.

Knitted Pouch for Sony Cyber-shot T100 - Completion

17052007847

Here it is!! My T100 isnt naked anymore. Wearing a nice body-hugging purple pouch with colorful bits. I made a good decision in changing the 2×2 ribbing to 2×1 and knitting the opening in 1×1. The tapered opening prevents my T100 from slipping out and yet, allows me to pull it out in an instant.

I slipped two old taped-together loyalty cards to protect the camera’s large 3″ lcd screen from accidental breakage. The rigidity provided by the two cards is just right. Now, i need to find a nice wrist-strap to replace the one that came with the camera. Or if the mood and inspiration arise, i might just make a matching one for it.

Lunch break

As i’ve to go to HSBC, we parked the car behind Oldtown Kopitiam and had lunch there. Not that it’s easy finding a parking space at 1.30pm. It’s the only one available and we didn’t hesitate any longer. I continued knitting until our food to arrive. It’s toast with kaya & butter, and iced honey lemon for me.
